Sweet Little Valentine’s Day Cookies

Valentine’s Day calls for sweet little treats. Make up a batch of these bite-sized pink hearts to include with your child’s valentines or for a tea party with your little sweetie.

Include your child in the baking process by having them read the recipe, measure ingredients and click the cookie press.

Valentine Spritz Cookies

Ingredients

  • 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 cup butter, softened
  • 3 ounces cream cheese, softened
  • 1 cup white sugar
  • 1 egg yolk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • pink or red food coloring

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Whisk together the flour, salt, cinnamon and nutmeg. Set aside.
  2. In a medium bowl, cream together butter and cream cheese. Add sugar, egg yolk and vanilla. Beat until light and fluffy. Add food coloring a few drops at a time until dough reaches the desired color.  Note that the cookies will be a few shades darker after cooking, so use a light hand.
  3. Gradually blend in the dry ingredients. Fill a cookie press with dough, and form cookies on an ungreased cookie sheet using the heart shaping plate.
  4. Bake for 8-9 minutes in the preheated oven, or until the bottoms of the cookies are golden brown. Remove from cookie sheets at once to cool on wire racks.
