Valentine’s Day calls for sweet little treats. Make up a batch of these bite-sized pink hearts to include with your child’s valentines or for a tea party with your little sweetie.
Include your child in the baking process by having them read the recipe, measure ingredients and click the cookie press.
Valentine Spritz Cookies
Ingredients
- 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1 cup butter, softened
- 3 ounces cream cheese, softened
- 1 cup white sugar
- 1 egg yolk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- pink or red food coloring
Directions
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Whisk together the flour, salt, cinnamon and nutmeg. Set aside.
- In a medium bowl, cream together butter and cream cheese. Add sugar, egg yolk and vanilla. Beat until light and fluffy. Add food coloring a few drops at a time until dough reaches the desired color. Note that the cookies will be a few shades darker after cooking, so use a light hand.
- Gradually blend in the dry ingredients. Fill a cookie press with dough, and form cookies on an ungreased cookie sheet using the heart shaping plate.
- Bake for 8-9 minutes in the preheated oven, or until the bottoms of the cookies are golden brown. Remove from cookie sheets at once to cool on wire racks.
